What We're Looking For
We are looking for an inquisitive Principal Mechanical Engineer to design a robust and customizable modular building platform to unlock the adoption of net-zero carbon homes at massive scale. The ideal candidate is a specialist in Design for Automated Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA), with significant experience in designing large structures with tight tolerances such as automotive body panels. The candidate should be comfortable working with assemblies with dissimilar materials (wood, steel, composites), and prior experience in robotic assembly is a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of our net-zero carbon modular building platform, optimizing it for people, planet and robots.
- Develop robotic end of arm tools, smart jigs and fixtures.
- Solve for efficient factory and field assembly with DfMA and GD&T and own the design to fabrication deliverables
- Prototype new solutions and materials, pushing the bounds of existing process to deliver the next generation of modular buildings.
- Brainstorm innovative solutions to disrupt the construction process and bring modular housing to scale.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, with a strong emphasis on DfMA.
- Extensive experience in the design of large structures such as automotive body panels.
- Proficient in 3D CAD software, FEA, DfMA, and GD&T.
- Strong knowledge of materials, fabrication processes, tooling design, and assembly methods.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to work well within cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
- Professional Engineering (PE) License preferred.
